Word of the Week Wednesday

Mud.

My life this week is mud. 

They actually do have grass, it's just not visible in this picture
Missouri has been in a drought for a while, and this week has provided some much-needed rain...Which means that my barn life is now covered in mud.

It's everywhere
My horse is also covered in mud. His flashy white legs are now brown, and then I groom them and then he goes back out and somehow they're worse the next day.


Of course, since we actually really *need* this rain, we're all trying not to complain too much. 

Snacks?
And the ponies, naturally, are enjoying it to the fullest! How's the weather where you are?

    Everything has been mud here for months. It's starting to dry up a bit, but there's still mud everywhere.

When I started riding at CEC, I had roughly zero experience with riding horses that anyone in their right mind would consider "hot." I was a pretty timid rider as a child, and anything that moved too quickly was too much for me. As a teenager/young adult, my confidence grew, but I still rarely rode anything overly forward - no longer by choice but simply due to a lack of availability, as more forward and more difficult horses often don't make it into lesson programs at barns where most clients are owners and the focus is hunters. The Steps We Take

I mentioned last week that the injections didn't seem to have made much of a difference for Leo; after 4-6 days, he should have been looking better, and he wasn't.  I attempted to contact my vet, and then proceeded to spend the next week playing phone tag.
