Halfway

I haven't had much to write about lately - things are pretty steady right now, with moments of progress.  We're working on walking with contact, walking in general, and paying attention to leg at the moment.  Leo tends to completely overreact to outside leg (it means go faster, right?!), and completely ignore inside leg (think repeated pony-club kicks before he starts to actually move off it).  Focusing on leg reactivity means spending more days in the saddle than doing groundwork, which has been really nice these last few weeks as we've been lucky enough to have some pretty gorgeous weather.

It's resulted in some moments of brilliance - moments where Leo actually starts to stretch down and seek contact, and moments where he finally, finally begins to bend.  It's also led to one hilarious moment of panic - all of the work we've done has been at the walk and trot but on Monday, he was being so good that I decided to see what would happen at the canter...and he started dropping his head and rounding and stretching down and I legitimately thought that something was incredibly wrong with him for a hot second because he has never offered that before.  So.  it's paying off, slowly but surely.  Not the most thrilling thing to write about, though.  "Today we had a private lesson with Trainer K and spent 15 minutes trotting in a square" does not a fascinating post make.

However, one very exciting thing did happen today...

I am officially halfway to my goal of being able to haul myself places!  And now I am going to spam you all with pictures of my super fancy gigantic new truck.

It's a 1995 F250, and it was customized to be really really good at hauling things.  And it's purple.  And I love it.  (:

Now I just need a trailer...and then I need to learn how to drive a truck that's pulling a trailer...and then I can go places!  Simple, right?

  2. Trotting a square is very hard to do! I also get your panic when it works. That truck is seriously gorgeous. We rarely have trucks that age here because of the salt we put down to keep the roads clear in winter. Are you thinking a trailer with living quarters?

  3. What a fun truck! It sounds like you're doing the good work, even if it isn't the most exciting to write about - you're laying the foundation for so much fun in the future, right?
