Bridle Woes

As a horse-warming present, my parents purchased me a PS of Sweden High Jump Revolution bridle.  This came after many, many hours of careful research as I tried to find 'the best' bridle for my fussy, sensitive new horse.  It took some time to get here - the first bridle that I was sent had some scuffs in the leather, and had to be exchanged, which took a while.  And it hasn't been ridden in very much - Leo had just started training when the new model arrived.  I think that at this point we have maybe, maybe put in 12 rides with it - quite possibly fewer, as I refuse to keep it at the barn and tend to forget to bring it with me.

I absolutely adore this bridle.  I love how it looks.  I love the padding, and the softness of the leather.  I love how well it cleans up after my horse slobbers all over the 'flash' strap during each and every ride in it.  I love that it is unique.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to feel like Leo does not particularly love it.  Although it fits him in the correct way, I have always been concerned that it may be just a hair too small - but because no one that I know personally has ever seen anything like it, no one can help me determine if it really and truly fits him as it should.  It's a cob size, and he's cob in a regular bridle, but a large cob.  He can wear a full.

There's the matter of the 'flash' - the nature of this bridle gives you no other options for a noseband, and while Leo had a major mouth-gaping issue when I first bought him, more and more that seems to be less of an issue when we work in his flat bridle.

And when it comes down to it...he just doesn't particularly seem to like the thing.  He doesn't seem to hate it, but I don't feel like it's made any sort of difference in sensitivity levels.

So do I sell it?  If I'm going to sell, I would like to decide soon, and stop using it while it still has so few rides.

And if I sell it, what do I replace it with?  Should I order a horse-size one to see if that makes a difference?  Does anyone have a horse size one lying around that they want to ship to MO real quick so that I can see if it works better for my horse than the cob size?

What brands should I start to look at if I start shopping for a replacement?

Why can't my horse just love his stupid fancy bridle as much as I love it????

  1. If you do decide to sell it, it should sell rather quickly. That really sucks that he doesn't seem to like it. SprinklerBandit has a bridle addiction and has numerous reviews if you want to look at other options.

    1. Sooo it looks like the issue may have just been me, being an idiot, and not messing around with it enough.

  3. Trust your gut! I personally would sell it now and buy something else :) It is pretty though, which is sad.

  6. It sure looks like it fits him. I would keep it (but I"m a bit of a hoarder) since it's not that he hates it. But let me know if you do end up selling it.
