Breaking In

Three weeks ago, I finally found a new pair of tall boots to replace the ones that I placed on consignment in July.  (Yes, I finished out the show season without a pair of tall boots to call my own.  It was a little rough.)  That last pair was purchased for me sometime in early high school by my mother, who thought that my feet weren't quite done growing.  They were a size 9.  I wear a 7 1/2.  Needless to say, they did not fit me very well.  It's only a testament to how little I've shown that they were even still around.

wearing to work
I had a really hard time finding a pair of boots that I liked enough to buy.  With an awkward calf size - slims tend to be a hair to small, regulars tend to be way too big - and a budget that doesn't quite justify getting something custom, I looked for what felt like a ridiculously long time.  (I was looking before I put the last pair on consignment).

ZIPPERS!!!!!
Finally, and completely on accident, I found a pair of Dublin On Air field boots on super end of season sale at one of the St Louis tack stores.

So shiny
Because I'm a big weenie, I've been avoiding starting the break-in process.  But alas, the boots are going to be needed very, very soon, for super exciting secret things. So tonight I am at work, and the boots are on my feet.

spur rests that aren't worn to nubs!
They're actually pretty comfortable for being brand new.  The first five minutes were a little rough, but one hour later they're barely noticeable - at least as long as I'm sitting down!  I wish that I had the budget to buy something crazy and beautiful, but these are perfectly functional and seem to be decent quality, especially for the price.  My Dublin half chaps lasted for years.

Leo and his nighttime girlfriend, Piper the baby saddlebred
In other news, Leo seems to have fully adjusted to being a pasture pony. He has friends!  Not pictured, but featured elsewhere on this blog are daytime BFF Griffin (also a saddlebred), and daytime arch-nemesis Peyton (not featured on this blog ever because he's a big meanie.  Also not a lesson horse.  And also, a chestnut saddlebred (which isn't a reason for him not being on the blog, just a fun fact - Leo's pasture is abundant with chestnut saddlebreds.).)

In other, other news - Equinpilot has reached her 500th post and is hosting a giveaway!  If you love adorable ponies, definitely check her out!

  2. I've heard that sticking insoles in new boots helps with the break in process - esp for behind your knees!!
