On Rubs and Unicorns

Spring has been using Leo's blanket this winter, because he is a hairy feral monster and his girlfriend would help him destroy a blanket in approximately .02 seconds.

It fits her okay, but now that she's not a scrawny mess any more it's not fitting her quite as well as it was at the beginning of the winter - she's grown in pretty much every possible way, and she's just started to get faint rubs from it. I've been putting coconut oil on the rubs, and I'm hoping that helps the hair recover.

blurry rub!
Because the end-of-winter blanket sales are rapidly approaching, and because it's fitting Spring quite well otherwise, I'm holding off on buying her a new blanket for now.  Instead, I took to scouring the internet in search of a decent/affordable shoulder guard that would get us through the rest of the season (although since the temperature for the next week is apparently staying above 40 degrees, this may have been unnecessary).

my little model
I found a woman on ETT who makes shoulder guards and tail bags in kickass patterns, and immediately snatched this one up!  It's made of very soft, thick lycra and has fleece lining the neck part, which is adjustable (!!!).  I paid $21 including shipping, and she threw in a plain black tail bag for free!

I was too busy torturing taking pictures of Rosie wearing the damn thing to get any pictures of how the stitching looks (excellent), or of the fleece, but overall it seems like a high quality piece, and I am super excited to try it out on Spring!  The woman who made it also does fleece blanket liners, coolers, and full sleazies at affordable prices and in a variety of fun prints, and I would be happy to pass her info along if anyone is interested!  (she did not ask me to post about my purchase and I paid full price)

side note - Playmobil makes tiny dressage horses.

I'll post an actual review of my shoulder guard once I start using it (although I won't complain if it never gets cold enough to use it).  Spring and I have a lesson tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get some video and NOT delete it!  Hope you all are having a great week!

  1. Would you mind sharing the info? I'm looking for a neck guard to stop my gelding from being half bald in another month of wearing his blanket + hood. I have a shoulder guard but it doesn't come up far enough. I hope that yours helps Spring's rubs!
