Boyfriend Horse

For almost as long as B and I have been dating, he's wanted to get into riding. He doesn't want to do anything competitive - he loves horses, and wants one that he can trail ride around for the joy of it. When I retired Leo and got Spring, we hoped that he would settle enough to be a trail horse for B.

Unfortunately, Leo has made it pretty clear that although he's ready to come back to work, he's not quite boyfriend horse material at this point in his life. So, we've been hoping that a more suitable mount would come along. We found a nice western saddle for B thanks to a local tack Facebook group, and we've been crossing our fingers that a horse would soon follow.

I don't talk about it much on this blog, but I work at a local therapeutic riding center one day a week and have for some time; I met the executive director ((KG)) through B's former boss when we first started dating, and have worked for her since before I had ever even been to CEC. She has a handful of horses that aren't quite therapy-ready, and this weekend she asked if we wanted to keep one of them at our place for a few months while she re-seeds her pastures!

Sable is some sort of QH/TWH cross with a mind that's a little independent for the therapy horse lifestyle, but who is still broke enough to be a fantastic trail mount for B. She's in her early twenties, sound, solid, and sane. Basically she's the perfect addition to our little herd.

KG brought her out yesterday, and she's settling in nicely. She's hanging out in our dry lot for now because Leo was being a bit of a dick to her (Saja likes her, therefore Leo became instantly jealous), but we're hoping that she'll integrate into the herd over the next few days. B rode her today and she was a perfect lady - they're a great pair, and the old girl seems thrilled to have a job again!

Although we don't have a trailer, we do have 15 acres for Sable and B to explore. Leo and I had a breakthrough under saddle this afternoon ((video coming soon!!!!)), so hopefully we'll be able to join them in the coming weeks. We are so incredibly grateful to KG for letting us borrow Sable!
