Wednesdays are for Jumping

First, an arm update: I've upgraded from the splint/cast to a removable (and washable!) brace, which is awesome - I can take it off to shower, or scratch my arm, or do physical therapy.  The goal of the brace is to wean myself off of it over the course of the next month; I take it off at night, mostly, and wear it during the day if I'm doing anything that involves actively using my arm.  With my doctor's permission, I've started to do some stall cleaning again - as long as I'm not doing anything too heavy, exercising with that arm is actually an excellent way to strengthen the damaged muscles, which are supported by the brace.  If all goes according to plan, I'll be back to normal by the end of September.

Because of the unpredictable nature of riding (especially the riding and jumping of green horses), I have not yet started riding again.  The brace definitely interferes with my ability to effectively use my hand, for one thing, and for another I don't think that sudden, unexpected movements are necessarily the best thing to help out with the healing process.  However, I have some pretty fantastic plans in the works for Sunday, so riding will be happening in the near future, and hopefully I'll start riding/jumping Spring again sometime in the next week or two.  It's definitely not that I don't want to ride, or that I think that I ~can't~ ride - but I've seen what happens when someone tries to come back too fast from an injury and ends up inadvertently setting themselves back a few weeks (or months) so I'm playing it safe by taking things slowly.  Better safe than sorry, and all that jazz.

Thankfully, I have some really amazing friends that are keeping Spring in shape for me while I'm out of commission.  Barn friends M and S have both ridden her in and outside of lessons, and have helped with groundwork.  Ms. Mare is making friends all around, and her talent as a jumper is really starting to show.  I was able to make my schedule tonight coincide with M's jumping lesson, and was able to snag some pretty decent photos of Spring jomping around.  Enjoy the following photo (and GIF) dump!

  6. I'm glad the arm is healing, that you are able to scratch, and that you have friends to keep Spring going for you. Horses are unpredictable and sometimes it sucks, but I'm glad you're in good hands <3 Heal quickly!
