Leo is a registered American Saddlebred.

So legit. |
I know essentially nothing about saddlebred genealogy, but I was able to find out some information on his ancestors through
The American Saddlebred Blog. I was most excited about this photo - as soon as I saw it I guessed that it was going to be related to Leo in some way...for what I think are pretty obvious reasons.

That's Center Ring, Leo's great great great grandsire. If you look closely, he even appears to have a little white patch on his belly! I have yet to find photos of Leo's parents (Sire: Vanilla Ice, Dam: Rachel's Choice), but it was pretty cool to get to see some older pictures of his further-back relatives!

Starheart Stonewall ties Leo into the Stonewall line, which is kind of a Big Deal in saddlebred land. One of his offspring was a stallion called Absolute Starheart, sire of Absolute Lionheart - my trainer's horse and Leo's long-lost "twin" - which confirms what we jokingly suspected all along - that the two of them are long-lost relatives (very distant relatives, but still).

They love each other. |
Anyways. When I bought Leo, I did receive his papers, but they were not signed over to me. This is because the woman that owned him before me did not have them in her name; ASB registration processes are somewhat complicated and time-consuming. So, for me to get Leo in my name, I would need to find his original owners and get them to sign a form transferring his registration to my name. This seemed like a lot of effort, and halfhearted Google searches were unproductive, so I've been procrastinating on it for a while.
Tonight, Trainer K managed to not only track down his original owners, but got them to agree to sign the transfer paperwork! Operation Registration is officially underway! I was able to speak with Leo's original owner, and she told me that although she wasn't his breeder, she was there when he was born, and got to watch him grow up for the first two years of his life before he was sold to his last owner. And somewhere, she thinks she has baby pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so excited.
Baby Leo!!!!! I hope you get them :)
ReplyDeleteMe tooooo!!!
DeleteOmg baby Leo pictures would be adorable, I hope she sends them!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be so sad if she can't find them!
DeleteAw that's awesome!! I love learning about our horses histories. Hopefully she comes through with baby pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for baby pictures! I have a few of Bailey, and I feel very fortunate to have them. I am so confused about Foxie's papers and the other weird stuff - like the seller not signing on her papers, and saying I shouldn't sign unless I sell her (I have no idea) that I just haven't dealt with registrations or anything for Bailey other than the USEA. She qualifies to be registered as an American Warmblood, but because there's no real incentive to do that (aka awards)... I haven't bothered. Their brand is kind of weird, anyways.
