Progression

The one picture that I have that is full-body 'conformationy' from the day that I met my crazy pony isn't all that great, so it's kind of difficult to see any changes that may have occurred in the last month.
Not a lot to see. Except he's parked out more in the first one, and maybe is looking a little more evenly proportioned. He looks a lot bigger in photos than he does IRL; I get regular comments about how narrow he is. He wears a 44" girth right now and it goes almost all the way up on both sides. He could probably pull off a 42, but I refuse to put him in the same size that a pony 2 hands shorter than him wears on a regular basis because he's a real horse, or something. But despite any huge differences (it's only been a month after all, and all that jazz), he has been getting some comments in the last week about weight gain, which is very exciting.
Leo is most noticeably (to me) narrow through the chest, and I think (MAYBE) that his more recent picture (on the right) shows a tiny bit more muscle definition. Again, this is possibly wishful thinking on my part, and the angle in the first picture is funky, but I'm going to pretend like there is a little bit of improvement.
Hopefully as the months go by Leo will start being more cooperative about standing for his picture to be taken so that it'll be easier to compare the before and after stuff, and I'll get better about choosing the same angles each time.
I can only get semi decent conformation pictures if I take them super early when there is zero activity at the barn. Even then I have about a three second window to get the picture snapped before he starts wiggling.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is when I met Leo I thought he was one of the best horses to photograph ever bc he basically stopped everything to preen for my camera. Now I think he was just showing off.
Deleteso i'm just getting caught up on your blog - Leo is adorable! i know basically nothing about ASBs but started hearing more of them after meeting a fellow eventer barn mate who was a former world champion saddle seat rider. she LOVES the breed and is especially excited to find instances of them eventing successfully. hopefully Leo settles in well and loves the new job!
ReplyDeleteHello and welcome! (: I know very little about them but my trainer is obsessed and I'm definitely learning to appreciate them! We have several verrrry talented ASB eventers at our barn. They actually outnumber the OTTBs. It's weird.
DeleteI just found your blog (and am in the process of getting caught up). But I just had to chime in. My badass Training eventer is a Saddlebred. Everyone is always shocked when I tell them that. Love that you are re-purposing him!
ReplyDeleteWelcome! I've read a few of your posts, your mare is adorable! Saddlebreds are such special creatures!
